Time to eat! The Costa Dorada has a typically Mediterranean cuisine, which combines products from the land and the sea. To whet your appetite, we will present you 3 typical dishes of the Costa Dorada.<\/p>\n

Arrossejat<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Being close to the Ebre Delta, we could not present other thing than a rice dish. Indeed, rice is one of the most characteristic dishes of the Costa Dorada. Rice in this area is prepared in many ways, but all of them are delicious, so we will not blame you if you have trouble deciding at the restaurant, or if you want to try them all!<\/p>\n

One of the most common elaborations is the so-called arrossejat<\/em>. It is very typical in towns like L\u2019Ametlla de Mar, Calafell and Sant Carles de la R\u00e0pita. It is a fishermen dish, which, formerly, was prepared to seize the fish that wasn\u2019t sold. It has the peculiarity that the raw rice is browned in the pan with the sauce before adding the fish broth.<\/p>\n

Cal\u00e7ots, one of the funniest\u00a0typical dishes of the Costa Dorada<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cal\u00e7ots<\/a> are a kind of sweet and tender spring onions. They are traditionally prepared directly on the fire, which will burn the outer layer but will keep the interior tender and tasty. They are accompanied with romesco<\/em> sauce or salvitxada<\/em>. They are typically served wrapped in newspaper or on a tile to conserve the heat.<\/p>\n

The way of eating cal\u00e7ots is also a ritual. You have to remove the burnt layer with your hands and then dip it in sauce. As it is almost impossible not to get a stain on yourself, often the napkin is used as a bib. Note that cal\u00e7ots are a seasonal product.<\/p>\n

You can eat them from mid-winter to mid-spring. So you now have a reason to visit the Costa Dorada during this time of year!<\/p>\n

Menjar Blanc, one of the sweetest typical dishes of the Costa Dorada<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Let\u2019s now talk about desserts with a one of the Typical dishes of the Costa Dorada. It is a sweet dish; in concrete it is original from Reus. The menjar blanc<\/em><\/a> (white food, literally) is a dessert of a medieval origin. It is made with almonds, sugar and rice starch. Usually flavoured with cinnamon, lemon peel and sometimes with rose water. The result is a sweet and soft cream with a very palatable texture.<\/p>\n
