The\u00a0Reus<\/a>\u00a0Modernism Route\u00a0<\/strong>invites us to take a very pleasant walk through the city centre, while enjoying the atmosphere of its streets. During the tour we will be able to know its most interesting modernist buildings, all of them identified with plaques in which there\u2019s\u00a0the\u00a0name\u00a0of the building, the name of its architect and the date of construction.<\/p>\n

The city of Reus<\/strong> is, along with Barcelona<\/strong>, one of the great epicentres of modernism. And note that Modernism<\/strong> goes far beyond the Holy Family<\/strong> (Sagrada\u00a0Familia).<\/p>\n

This artistic current of the end of the XIX c. and early XX c. was inspired by nature, the exotic and the curvilinear forms to create a modern culture that broke with the classic currents. As you can see in this route, Modernism was a style in which hat inspired the architecture<\/strong> of hospitals, factories or cellars, even\u00a0theaters\u00a0and manor houses.<\/p>\n

Architects of the Reus Modernism route\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

Reus was\u00a0hometown to\u00a0Antoni\u00a0Gaud\u00ed, but it was\u00a0Llu\u00eds\u00a0Dom\u00e8nech\u00a0i\u00a0Montaner,<\/strong> the modernist architect who left his mark on it. The elegance of its personal style can be admired in buildings such as Casa\u00a0Nav\u00e0s, Casa\u00a0Rull\u00a0or Casa\u00a0Gasull<\/strong>. His most outstanding work in Reus is the Pere Mata Institute, the city’s psychiatric hospital. Divided into pavilions\u00a0and\u00a0surrounded by gardens, it still retains its original decoration in the Pavilion of the Distinguished, the only one that can be visited today.<\/p>\n

Also worthy of special mention are the buildings designed by Pere\u00a0Caselles<\/strong>, collaborator of\u00a0Dom\u00e8nech\u00a0i\u00a0Montaner\u00a0and those of Joan\u00a0Rubi\u00f3\u00a0i\u00a0Bellver, disciple of\u00a0Antoni\u00a0Gaud\u00ed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Another interesting stop is the\u00a0Gaud\u00ed\u00a0Center, a museum that interactively reveals the secrets of life and the work of the most universal Catalan architect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Reus Modernism Route<\/strong> can be done\u00a0for\u00a0free, simply following the itinerary marked on the tourist map of the city. If you choose a guided tour, which you can request at the same tourist office, you will have the advantage of being able to access the interiors of some spaces that are usually closed to the public, such as\u00a0the\u00a0Casa\u00a0Nav\u00e0s.<\/p>\n
